Edo State Government’s Condolences to LP Candidate on Billboard Removal

Expressing sympathy, the Edo State Government acknowledged the removal of campaign billboards belonging to Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Olumide Akpata.

In a statement on Friday in Benin, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, condemned vandalism in any form and encouraged all parties involved to address such issues using appropriate channels.

Making a remark, Nehikhare stated, “The concerns raised by Mr. Olumide Akpata regarding the removal of his campaign billboards have been noted. The Edo State Government decries all forms of vandalism and calls on all parties involved to handle such matters through the proper channels.”

While empathizing with Akpata’s frustrations, the government advised him to liaise with the relevant agencies responsible for signage management to resolve any unresolved bills or disputes.

“Violent threats or acts of disobedience have no place in our democratic system, and it is expected that all parties conduct themselves with decorum and adherence to the law. Emphasis should be placed on constructive dialogue and peaceful engagement rather than employing provocative tactics that may lead to division or unrest,” Nehikhare emphasized.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and addressing any disruptive behavior, irrespective of an individual’s status or affiliation.

Encouraging Akpata to address internal challenges within his party and work towards promoting unity and stability, the commissioner emphasized the importance of striving for a peaceful and all-inclusive electoral process for the betterment of all citizens.

At a press conference, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Akpata had earlier accused the Edo State Government of being responsible for the damaged campaign billboards.
