DoorDash unveils Dot, its fast new delivery robot

DoorDash launches Dot, a fast autonomous delivery robot in Phoenix. Discover how it’s changing local commerce and deliveries.

DoorDash has just revealed Dot, its purpose-built autonomous delivery robot designed to transform the way local orders reach your doorstep. Dot is small enough for sidewalks yet powerful enough to travel up to 20 mph in bike lanes and neighborhood roads.

The launch begins with an early access program in the Phoenix metro area, where residents will be the first to see Dot in action. With its compact, all-electric design, Dot aims to cut congestion, reduce emissions, and deliver everyday essentials more efficiently.

How Dot is different

DoorDash didn’t simply adapt a robot to deliveries. Instead, it built Dot from the ground up with years of data and billions of deliveries in mind.

  • Compact and fast: At one-tenth the size of a car, Dot is quick enough to preserve food quality while navigating sidewalks, driveways, and streets.
  • Smart and safe: Sensors and AI routing help Dot pick the most efficient path for every trip.
  • Eco-friendly: With an all-electric design, Dot supports safer, less congested streets.

DoorDash Co-Founder Stanley Tang summed it up: You don’t need a full-sized car to deliver toothpaste or diapers. Dot fills that gap in a smarter way.

Powered by an Autonomous Delivery Platform

Dot is just one part of DoorDash’s broader Autonomous Delivery Platform. This AI-powered system decides the best way to fulfill each order, whether by Dasher, robot, drone, or other methods.

By acting like an AI dispatcher, the platform ensures every delivery balances speed, cost, and convenience. That same system also helps merchants with tools like SmartScale, which checks order accuracy and size to match deliveries with the right vehicle.

Creating opportunities for merchants, Dashers, and customers

DoorDash sees Dot as a way to support, not replace, its network of Dashers. While Dashers will continue to handle the majority of orders, Dot can cover shorter, simpler trips. This balance means Dashers can focus on high-value deliveries, merchants get faster service, and customers enjoy quicker, more reliable access to what they need.

Local officials in Arizona are already backing the move. Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman called Dot a “breakthrough idea” that highlights how innovation can help strengthen local businesses while shaping the future of delivery.

What this means for you

If you live in the Phoenix area, you may soon spot Dot cruising by with groceries, takeout, or household goods. For everyone else, this marks the beginning of a bigger shift. DoorDash is laying the groundwork for a scalable, AI-driven delivery network that blends human effort with smart machines.
