Donald Trump renames Strait of Hormuz 'Trump Strait' in unhinged mid-term address

Donald Trump has sensationally renamed the Strait of Hormuz to the ‘The Trump Strait’ in his midterm address.

Speaking with a crowd of Republican supporters at the American Airlines Centre in Dallas, Texas, he spent most of his speech extolling the virtue of his second term.

He emphasised how the typical American family was better off under his leadership. He also argued that countries across the world “wished they had what we have.”

Trump then turned his sights unexpectedly onto his war against Iran.

“We’ll win the war against Iran – we’re winning it, we’re winning it!” he said.

“We control the Hormuz Strait. I think we should call… we should rename – I’ve got to get something out of this - the Strait of Hormuz, ‘The Trump Strait!’”

“It’s going to be called – ladies and gentlemen – I have an announcement.”

“We’ll call it the Trump Strait and I’m sure the Iranian leadership are going to be thrilled about that.

“I don’t think they are happy about anything their country is falling apart.”

“They’ve been the bully of the Middle East for 52 years and they’re not the bully anymore.”

Trump has already floated the idea earlier this month of changing the name of the critically important Strait, which was responsible for the transport of 20 million barrels of oil per day on average before he started his war.

This amounts to around 20% of the world’s total supply.

Trump's bombshell renaming comes on the day Tehran fired what it claimed was a new missile system at US warships in the region - which were intercepted or otherwise failed to hit their targets, states US Central Command.

Just days ago, he threatened to change New Mexico to “New America” and previously in a move no doubt designed to antagonise Canadians - he called for Lake Ontario to be called “Lake America.”

Some believe the Strait of Hormuz got its name from Ahura Mazda, the main deity in the Zoroastrian religion which originated in ancient Persia and is still practiced by a minority in Iran today.

However, it is largely accepted that the name originates from the nearby city of Ormuz, which may in turn get its own name from the Persian word for date palm Hur-mush.
