Novak Djokovic

Tennis legend Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Adelaide international tournament, citing lack of full fitness.

The Adelaide tournament is the warm-up for the first Grand Slam of the year at the Australian Open.

He is targeting his 11th Australian Open title, and a record 25th Grand Slam glory.

Djokovic has not played an official tour match in nearly two months, his last appearance came on Nov. 8, when he defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the final of the Hellenic Championship in Athens.

He confirmed on social media that he won’t be participating in the tournament while switching his focus to the Australian Open.

Djokovic wrote on X: “To all my fans in Adelaide, unfortunately I’m not quite physically ready to compete in the Adelaide International next week.

“It’s personally very disappointing to me, as I have such great memories of winning the title there.

“My focus is now on my preparation for the Australian Open and I look forward to arriving in Melbourne soon and seeing all the tennis fans in Australia.”

The Adelaide international tournament is expected to kick off next week while the Australian Open begins from January 18 to February 1.

Djokovic has been ranked as the world No. 1 in men’s singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for a record 428 weeks, finished as the year-end No. 1 a record eight times, and has been ranked No. 1 at least once in a year for a record 13 different years.

He has won 101 ATP Tour–level singles titles, including a record 24 majors (among which a record ten Australian Open titles), a record 40 Masters, a record seven year-end championships, and an Olympic gold medal.

He is the only man in tennis history to be the reigning champion of all four majors at once across three different surfaces.

In singles, he is the only man to achieve a triple Career Grand Slam, and the only player to complete a Career Golden Masters, a feat he has accomplished twice.
