Despite issues, Okada & Takeshita earn WrestleDream title match

Tag team champions Brodido (Brody King & Bandido) faced Don Callis members Konosuke Takeshita & Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada in a Double Jeopardy Eliminator at Dynamite Title Tuesday tonight (Oct. 7). This special stimulation set that if the Callis family win, they get a tag team championship match against Brodido in the future. If any member of Brodido pins either Takeshita or Okada, they get a shot at the Unified championship.

Inherently, this stipulation would lead to some tension between team members. Both King & Bandido could want to get the pin to get a match with Okada for the Unified title. And Takeshita doesn’t have as much at stake as Okada does, and those two already have tension.

The tag champs never had issues. With a title match at stake, they never went above that to try to get a title match.

The Callis Family team though? Well they had their issues.

There was a moment they got in each other’s face. Later in the match, Konosuke accidentally (?) kneed Kazuchika off the apron. Immediately after that, Takeshita went at Bandido, who had been nursing a shoulder injury the entire match. When it looked like he had Bandido where he wanted him, Okada tagged himself in and hit the Rainmaker to steal the win.

Okada & Takeshita will get an AEW tag title match at WrestleDream in two weeks. But they’re clearly not on the same page. That match is just as likely to lead to bigger issues between the two stars than it is to lead to a title change. But they already beat Brodido once despite being on the same page, and Bandido was really favoring his shoulder. We’ll see at WrestleDream if Callis’s guys can go 2 for 2.
