DCI Clarifies Corporal James Muiruri Mburu’s Death at the Headquarters

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has clarified that Corporal James Muiruri Mburu, attached to the Kajiado North Sub-County, did not die at DCI Headquarters as reported on social media.

According to the DCI, the officer passed away on February 21,2026, in Ngong, and the DCI emphasised that misinformation regarding the location of his death was incorrect.

In a statement dated February 23, the DCI said Muiruri died in Ngong, and he was taken to Ngong Level IV Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“We, however, wish to clarify certain inaccuracies circulating on social media. Corporal Muiruri did not pass away at DCI Headquarters,” DCI stated in part of their statement.

DCI On Discovery and Emergency Response

The Directorate explained that Corporal Muiruri’s body was discovered by a neighbor’s house help, who found him unresponsive in his kitchen garden and immediately raised the alarm.

As a result, three fellow officers responded swiftly and rushed him to Ngong Level IV Hospital.

The incident was formally reported at Ngong Police Station under OB No. 38/21/02/2026.

“His body was not discovered by family members, but by a neighbor’s house help who found him and immediately raised the alarm,” the notice clarified, stressing the importance of accurate reporting and prompt emergency response.

The DCI expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Corporal Muiruri.

“We mourn with you the loss of a beloved son, colleague, and dedicated officer. May God grant you strength, comfort, and abundant grace to carry you through this painful time,” the statement read.

Preliminary Findings and Investigation

According to the directorate, preliminary investigations conducted by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers, with assistance from Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) personnel, revealed a live electrical wire beneath the surface of the garden.

The issued statement indicated that this is believed to have caused electrocution while he was tending the land.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that a live electrical wire beneath the garden surface is believed to have caused electrocution,” the DCI statement explained.

Additionally, the Directorate confirmed that a formal inquiry has been launched, and a postmortem examination is scheduled to establish the exact cause of death.

Officials urged the public to respect the family’s privacy and avoid speculation.

“As investigations continue, we respectfully urge the public to allow the family the privacy and dignity they deserve as they grieve this immense loss,” the directorate emphasised.
