Devotional

Christian hope looks forward, not with fear, but with expectation.

The return of Jesus Christ is described in Scripture as “the blessed hope.” Think about that phrase. Not “the dreaded event.” Not “the terrifying conclusion.” Not “the uncertain maybe.” The blessed hope.

This means Christ’s return is not meant to produce anxiety, speculation, or escapism, but confident anticipation. It is something to look forward to, not something to fear. It is the day when everything wrong will be made right, when every tear will be wiped away, when the King will finally be seen in His glory.

The hope of Christ’s return assures believers that history is moving toward God’s appointed conclusion.

We live in a world that often feels out of control. Injustice seems to win. Suffering appears pointless. Evil flourishes while goodness struggles. It is easy to look at the news and feel that things are unraveling, that darkness is spreading, that there is no end in sight.

But Scripture gives us a different perspective. History is not spinning randomly. It is not a tragic accident. It is moving—purposefully, inexorably—toward a divinely appointed conclusion. And that conclusion is not destruction but restoration. Not annihilation but redemption. Not the triumph of evil but the reign of Christ.

Christ’s return promises the full restoration of all things.

Injustice will be addressed. Every wrong will be made right. Every oppressor will face the Judge. Every victim will receive justice. Not a single tear shed for righteousness will be forgotten.

Suffering will cease. Pain will end. Death will die. The curse will be lifted. Creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay.

Righteousness will dwell openly. Not hidden, not struggling, not fought for—but reigning. The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

This hope anchors believers when the world feels unstable and broken.

When you see injustice and wonder if God sees, hope answers: He sees, and He is coming. When you suffer and wonder if it will ever end, hope answers: It will, and He is coming. When you grow weary of the fight and wonder if it’s worth it, hope answers: It is, and He is coming.

When hope of Christ’s return is neglected, believers often become overly attached to temporary outcomes.

If this life is all there is, then you must have everything now. You must see justice now. You must experience healing now. You must have comfort now. And when you don’t, despair follows.

But when the hope of Christ’s return is embraced, priorities realign. You stop demanding that everything be fixed in this life because you know the best is yet to come. You stop living for temporary comforts because you are storing up eternal treasures. You stop being surprised by suffering because you know it is producing glory.

Endurance strengthens. You can keep going because you know the finish line is approaching. Faithfulness deepens. You can obey even when it costs because you know the King is coming and His approval matters most.

Christ-Centered Focus

Jesus Christ will return visibly, bodily, and gloriously.

The same Savior who came humbly—born in a stable, wrapped in swaddling clothes, laid in a manger—will return triumphantly. The same Jesus who walked dusty roads, who was rejected by His own, who was nailed to a cross—He will come again. Not in weakness, but in power. Not in obscurity, but in glory. Every eye will see Him. Every knee will bow.

His return is not a threat to believers, but the fulfillment of redemption and the completion of salvation.

For those who trust Him, His appearing is not something to dread but something to desire. It is the day we finally see His face. The day we are made like Him. The day we enter into the fullness of all He has prepared for us.

Conclusion

Hope looks forward with confidence because Christ will return as promised.

Today, let this hope shape how you live. Do not be consumed by the temporary. Do not be paralyzed by the world’s brokenness. Do not lose heart in the struggle.

Look up. Your redemption draws near. The blessed hope is coming. And the One who promised is faithful.

Prayer

Lord Jesus,
Thank You for the promise of Your return. Thank You that history is not spinning out of control but moving toward Your appointed conclusion. Help me live faithfully and expectantly as I await Your appearing. Let this hope purify my heart, steady my life, and realign my priorities. When I see injustice, remind me that You are coming. When I suffer, remind me that it won’t last forever. When I grow weary, remind me that the finish line is near.
In Your name,
Amen.

Declaration

  • I declare that I am looking for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of my Savior, Jesus Christ.
  • I declare that Christ’s return assures me that injustice will be addressed, suffering will cease, and righteousness will dwell openly.
  • I declare that I will live with eternal perspective, not fixated on temporary outcomes, because the best is yet to come.

Action Points

  1. Realign priorities in light of Christ’s return. Ask yourself: “If Jesus returned today, would I be satisfied with how I have invested my time, energy, and resources?”
  2. Live with eternal perspective rather than temporary fixation. Choose one area where you have been overly attached to an earthly outcome and consciously release it to God.
  3. Encourage others with the hope of Christ’s coming. Share with one person today why you are looking forward to Jesus’ return.
