Daddy Lumba Took Me as a Brother, Not Just a Friend – Papa Shee

Speaking on Adom TV’s Showtym, Papa Shee said the late music icon never regarded him as a friend but rather as a brother taken directly from his parents, explaining why he has remained vocal in defending Akosua Serwaa, Daddy Lumba’s first wife, following the musician’s death in July 2025.

“The late Daddy Lumba never took me as a friend. He took me as a brother from my parents,” Papa Shee stated.

According to him, Daddy Lumba personally approached his parents to ask for him because he did not have a biological brother. Papa Shee explained that his mother had five children—four males and one female—which made it easier for Lumba to formally take him into his family.

“Ever since I met Lumba and his wife Akosua Serwaa, he never took me as a friend. He took me as a brother. He came to plead or ask for me from my mother and father because he wasn’t having a biological brother,” he said. “So he took me and gave me to his mother, Ama Asaah.”

Papa Shee further noted that the late music star never introduced him to anyone as a friend, but always as his brother. He added that Lumba’s mother, Ama Saah, also referred to him as her son rather than a friend of her son, reinforcing the deep family bond they shared.

The evangelist also said his close relationship with Daddy Lumba means he has firsthand knowledge of the musician’s personal life, career journey, and marriage to his first wife, Akosua Serwaa. He explained that this is why he has consistently been seen speaking up for her amid the controversies that have followed Lumba’s passing.

Since Daddy Lumba’s death, issues surrounding his estate, family matters, and court proceedings have generated public debate, with Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni at the centre of discussions as his widows. Papa Shee has been one of the most outspoken voices defending his first wife, Akosua Serwaa and her position.

Addressing criticisms and name-calling directed at him, Papa Shee said he is not bothered by public opinion and remains focused on doing what he believes is right.

“I don’t really care about what people are saying about me. I pay deaf ears to the insults,” he said, stressing that his actions are driven by love, loyalty, and respect for the late musician.

He concluded that his support for Akosua Serwaa is not motivated by personal gain but by his deep-rooted bond with Daddy Lumba and his commitment to honouring the legacy of someone he regarded as a true brother.
