Co-op’s Spring Bank Holiday hours

Co-op‘s larger stores will operate their usual hours of 7am to 10pm on the Late Bank Holiday.

But as some regional variations may apply, it is wise to check with your branch.

You can find your local store’s trading hours by visiting coop.co.uk/store-finder.

It was one of two supermarket chains to have recently been affected by a serious cyber attack.

Other supermarkets, such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Asda, have all revealed their opening times, with many expected to keep their doors open.

Co-op’s bank and funeral home

The Co-op also operates several other services including a bank and a funeral service.

Both services generally close their doors on bank holidays.

However, Co-op Funeralcare homes offer a 24 hour central care team that can be contacted by phone or their website.

It’s best to get in touch with your local Co-op Funeralcare branch directly to confirm their opening hours.

Co-op’s incredible journey

Co-op’s roots can be traced all the way back to 1844 with the Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers.

Throughout the years, they have grown to become one of the UK’s leading consumer co-operatives.

A consumer co-operative is an enterprise fully owned by its members, unlike a traditional business.

As of December 2024, the brand has its headquarters in One Angel Square in Manchester.

The building is one of the most sustainable large buildings in Europe, thanks to its bio-diesel cogeneration plant which uses rapeseed oil to provide heat and electricity.

Co-op cyber attack

Co-op convenience stores across the UK are still dealing with shortages and empty shelves, three weeks on from a major cyberattack that compromised customer and staff data and knocked out parts of their IT systems.

The Co-op confirmed that personal details such as names, contact information and dates of birth of a “significant number” of its 6.2million customers and past members have been compromised.

In a message to Co-op members, Shirine Khoury-Haq, the chief executive of the group, warned members to “take the usual steps to keep their passwords safe”.

Although the Co-op says it’s now in the recovery phase and working to restock, the reality on the ground is quite different.

Many stores are still facing late or incomplete deliveries, and it’s not hard to spot apology notices printed out and pinned up around the shops.

Co-op isn’t the only business to have fallen victim to cyber-criminals in recent weeks.

We are now in the recovery phase and are bringing our systems gradually back online in a safe and controlled manner.

Marks & Spencer has also been hit hard, with its well-publicised troubles likely to cost the company around £300 million in lost online sales.

Because M&S is a publicly listed firm, it’s been keeping shareholders informed of the financial fallout. Co-op, on the other hand, is member-owned and isn’t held to the same reporting requirements.

It’s widely believed that the same criminal group is behind the attacks on Co-op, M&S, and Harrods.

In response, Co-op initially focused on getting deliveries out to shops in more remote, rural areas, before managing to bring some of its internal systems back online to restart ordering and supply chain operations.

That said, the empty shelves in many stores tell a different story.

It’s clear things still aren’t running at full tilt.

A spokesperson for Co-op said: “Following the malicious third-party cyber-attack, we took early and decisive action to restrict access to our systems in order to protect our Co-op.

“We are now in the recovery phase and are bringing our systems gradually back online in a safe and controlled manner.

“Stock availability across our stores has improved and we continue to work closely with our suppliers.”
