China Mining Federation Denies Allegations Of Illegal Activities, Reaffirms Commitment To Lawful Mining In Nigeria

The China Mining Federation of Nigeria has dismissed recent reports claiming that Chinese mining companies are infiltrating the country’s solid minerals sector and engaging in illegal activities, describing the allegations as false and misleading. The federation reiterated its commitment to lawful mining practices and cooperation with Nigerian authorities.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the federation said it had observed the circulation of media reports accusing Chinese nationals of illegal mining, environmental degradation, seizure of mineral resources, and alleged support for terrorist activities. Addressing the terrorism claims, it emphasized that Chinese mining companies operating in Nigeria have themselves been victims of terrorist attacks.

The federation noted that Chinese firms have consistently supported the Nigerian government’s efforts to safeguard national security and remain willing to cooperate fully to maintain a safe and stable operating environment.

“Chinese mining companies in Nigeria have always strictly complied with Nigeria’s laws and regulations under the guidance of the Chinese government,” the statement read. “While conducting business in compliance with the law, these companies actively cooperate with Nigerian government departments to strengthen mining governance.”

It added that the firms have contributed to industrial transformation by building local factories, creating jobs for Nigerians, and ensuring greater local value retention, turning mineral resources into tangible development benefits. The companies have also invested in community development, environmental protection, and corporate social responsibility initiatives, deepening China-Nigeria mining cooperation.

The federation urged Nigerian media and the public to report on the sector fairly and objectively, warning against misinformation that could harm bilateral relations. It reaffirmed its readiness to work with the Nigerian government and stakeholders to support Nigeria’s economic and social development and ensure the partnership delivers tangible benefits to both countries.
