Cardi B cleared in $24 million assault lawsuit

Cardi B has been cleared by a Los Angeles jury in a $24 million civil lawsuit filed by security guard Emani Ellis, who accused the rapper of scratching her face with a long fingernail and spitting on her during a 2018 confrontation.

At the time, Cardi was four months pregnant and trying to keep the news private.

During the trial, Cardi admitted the encounter was a heated shouting match but denied any physical assault. She testified that Ellis invaded her privacy, filmed her, and refused to step back, while witnesses, including her doctor and receptionist, supported her account.

The jury took just an hour to dismiss all claims of assault, battery, negligence, and emotional distress. “Don’t think you’re going to sue me and I’ll just settle,” Cardi told reporters after the verdict.

The case attracted wide attention for Cardi’s viral courtroom appearances, with her bold outfits and fingernails repeatedly discussed. Outside court, fans showed support, one even holding a sign that read: “If the nail don’t fit, u must acquit.”Despite the drama, Cardi urged her followers not to harass Ellis or her family, calling the ruling a clear victory.
