Brentford striker Ivan Toney is of interest to Arsenal and Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window to solve their striker concerns

Arsenal and Chelsea transfer target Ivan Toney has been continuing to work on his game away from the Brentford training pitches ahead of the January window. Over the summer and during the opening month of the 2023/24 season, Toney posted regular updates to his social media of what he was working on in the midst of his eight-month ban from football.

The 27-year-old admitted to a number of betting charges from the FA in the summer which saw a lengthy ban begin in May 2023 with Toney allowed to return in mid-January. Ahead of his return, a number of Premier League clubs are weighing up a winter move for Toney.

Much has been said about his price tag with £60million appearing as the likely fee that will be enough to see him move on from the Bees. However, a new report from Sky Sports noted that the asking price is now set at £100million with Thomas Frank determined not to lose his star in the middle of a season, with his latest admission suggesting as such.

He told the media last month: “He is happy at the club, I want him to stay. Ivan is happy to stay. He’s happy at the club. What happens in the future is impossible to guess about.” Although it appeared inevitable, one of Arsenal or Chelsea would sign Toney in the January transfer window, a number of twists have occurred that suggest it may not happen.

Firstly, Arsenal appear to now be targeting RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko ahead of next summer’s trading period, which certainly hints a major forward acquisition in the first month of 2024 is unlikely. Whereas at Stamford Bridge, the Blues are looking for a “really elite level forward”, which Toney does not currently appear in the category of, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

With that in mind, Toney appears to have now reminded both teams of his ability with another update on Instagram. With the striker first uploading a number of photos from Brentford training, Toney then also shared the work he is doing individually with specialist attacking coach Allan Russell.

The former professional footballer runs Superior Striker, the world’s best striker specific training programme. In the clips Toney is shown working on his close-range shooting and strikes from tight angles with his weaker left foot while Russell is also heard instructing Toney on how to best create space to shoot.
