Blackmagic Camera App Update Brings Direct Streaming and SRT Support

Blackmagic Design has rolled out a major update to its Blackmagic Camera app, introducing new features that cater to streamers, content creators, and professional broadcasters. Available on both Android and iOS, the latest version now allows users to stream directly to YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo—no third-party apps or extra encoding hardware required.

With this new capability, users simply select their desired platform, enter a secure stream key, and start broadcasting instantly. During live streams, creators still have full access to the app’s powerful camera controls, including exposure, white balance, and focus adjustments, making it easier to deliver high-quality, real-time productions straight from a smartphone.

Support for SRT and Custom Servers

The update also adds SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) support—a widely used streaming protocol in professional broadcasting known for delivering smoother, more reliable streams even over unstable internet connections.

In addition to the built-in streaming options, users can now connect to custom RTMP and SRT servers, offering flexibility for those who prefer to broadcast on other platforms or private networks.

Improved Reliability and Multi-Camera Monitoring

Another highlight of the update is improved data management. The app now issues immediate alerts when an external drive is disconnected, helping to prevent data loss during high-resolution or high-frame-rate recordings especially when capturing Apple ProRes files that the iPhone can’t store internally.

For multi-camera users, the app introduces a new option to customize multi-view angles when monitoring remote cameras. This gives users more flexibility when managing multiple video feeds on larger screens such as an iPad or Mac.

A Powerful Tool for Mobile Filmmakers

The Blackmagic Camera app update continues the company’s push to make professional filmmaking tools more accessible to mobile creators. With built-in direct streaming, SRT support, and smarter recording safeguards, it’s quickly becoming one of the most capable free camera apps available for smartphones today.
