Bayo Onanuga: He said Igbos Should Never Interfere With The Politics Of Lagos State – Kenneth Okonkwo

In a recent critique, Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent Nigerian actor and lawyer, condemned the inflammatory remarks made by Bayo Onanuga, a media aide to President Bola Tinubu. Onanuga’s statements have sparked significant controversy and highlighted the persistent ethnic tensions within Nigeria, particularly regarding the involvement of Igbos in the politics of Lagos State.

Okonkwo highlighted the hypocrisy in the president’s stance on ethnic bigotry and his continued association with Onanuga. “He said Igbos should never interfere with the politics of Lagos State,” Okonkwo remarked, pointing out the divisive nature of Onanuga’s comments. This stands in stark contrast to President Tinubu’s own declarations against ethnic discrimination.

“President Tinubu said in his own words, ‘For people who want to take undue advantage of this situation to threaten a section of the country, be warned, the law will catch up with you. There is no place for ethnic bigots in the Nigeria we seek to build.’ This same President is harbouring, as a media aide, a man who, after 2023, said Igbos are aliens in Yoruba land,” Okonkwo stated. He underscored the contradiction between the president’s public statements and his actions, highlighting a significant gap in the administration’s commitment to fighting ethnic bigotry.

Okonkwo also referenced Onanuga’s inflammatory social media posts, which further fuelled ethnic tensions. “He said that 2023 should be the last time that the Igbos should interfere in the politics of Lagos State, and in 2027 it should not repeat itself again. It was on his Twitter space, and I’m talking about Bayo Onanuga. If the President is sincere in what he said in paragraph six of his speech, the first thing he would have done is to sack Bayo,” Okonkwo argued.
