Viral video of bandits in Jigawa is fake - Police

The Jigawa State Police Command has debunked a viral video claiming that armed bandits on motorcycles were riding through Dutse, the state capital, describing the footage as fake, misleading, and maliciously fabricated. The video, which circulated widely on social media, caused panic among residents, alleging that around 12:47 a.m. on October 28, 2025, a group of heavily armed bandits rode through the metropolis toward an undisclosed location. In a statement released in Dutse on Thursday, October 30, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Adam, said investigations confirmed that the individuals in the video were not bandits but members of the Peace and Security Service Organisation, hunters from Bauchi State. According to Adam, the group was returning from a meeting in Chai-Chai Sabuwa, in Ringim Local Government Area, when someone filmed them. He noted that they carried traditional hunting gear such as Dane guns, bows, and arrows, not the sophisticated weapons typically used by bandits. The claim is entirely false, misleading, and mischievous. The video misrepresented the facts and could have caused unnecessary panic among citizens, Adam said. He urged the public to remain calm and disregard the rumour, emphasizing that Jigawa remains one of the most peaceful states in the North-West, despite being in a region affected by banditry and insurgency. The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, also appealed for calm and encouraged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear.
