  • Audi is gearing up to launch the electric RS6 Sportback e-tron, a high-performance version of the upcoming A6 e-tron.
  • This electric powerhouse boasts an 800-volt system, a 100 kWh battery pack with a potential 435-mile range, and rumored power output of 805 hp.
  • The RS6 e-tron will compete with electric and hybrid performance sedans like the new BMW M5 PHEV and Mercedes-AMG EQE.

Audi is gearing up to join the electric arms race with its RS6 Sportback e-tron. Based on the new A6 e-tron, this model aims to complement the traditional internal combustion-powered RS6 (set to be renamed RS7).

Recently captured by our spies racing around the Nürburgring, the RS6 Sportback e-tron is almost ready for a grand unveiling with all its production-ready elements. Our illustrated preview delves into everything we’ve uncovered about this electrifying powerhouse.

Amped Aesthetics

Echoing the A6 e-tron Sportback, the RS6 variant flaunts a muscular appearance. It features an assertive front facade characterized by Audi’s iconic ‘Singleframe’ grille, intricate honeycomb patterns on the lower air intakes, and sleek horizontal fin-like vents beneath the split-mount LED headlights.

Other features include large alloy wheels highlighted by red brake callipers, pronounced side skirts, and an aerodynamic front lip splitter. The rear is dominated by a substantial diffuser and traditional side mirrors, replacing the earlier side cameras, alongside a striking full-width OLED light cluster.

Dynamic Interior

Inside, the cabin will mirror the styling and spaciousness of the A6 e-tron Sportback and Avant, featuring a flat floor design for enhanced roominess. While we haven’t caught a glimpse of the interior yet, Audi released a teaser of the A6 e-tron concept’s interior back in 2021, boasting a minimalist design with a separate, dual-screen layout.

However, with the production model, it is possible that Audi may lean more heavily towards the design of the newly introduced Q6 e-tron. This model boasts a classy yet cool interior with two vibrant OLED displays, a 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.5-inch center touchscreen, housed under a single curved bezel, plus an optional 10.9-inch touchscreen for the passenger, all supporting wireless connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Additional features should include an augmented reality head-up display and dynamic ambient lighting, enhancing functionality and atmosphere.

The RS6 e-tron will feature model-specific digital displays, along with a range of sporty upgrades to distinguish itself from its lesser siblings. These include a three-spoke steering wheel, bucket-style seats adorned with contrasting red stitching, and matching trim elements throughout the interior.

PPE Platform

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

The RS6 Sportback e-tron is built on Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE), shared with the Porsche Macan EV. It boasts an 800-volt system and a robust 100 kWh battery pack, capable of a 435-mile range (700 km) under the WLTP cycle (in lesser variants – the RS6 will likely have a lower range).

The architecture supports rapid DC fast charging up to 270 kW, quickly alleviating any range concerns. The platform also integrates sport-oriented adaptive damping and air suspension to ensure a seamless and comfortable driving experience.

Potent Power

While the standard A6 e-tron offers various motor configurations, including a base single motor and a dual motor setup with 469 hp (350 kW / 476 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque achieving 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under four seconds, the RS6 is expected to push boundaries further.

Rumors suggest it will boast a staggering 805 hp (600 kW / 816 PS) with power delivered to all four wheels via Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

The next BMW M5 will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain built around a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8

In the high-performance electric sedan segment, the 2025 Audi RS6 Sportback e-tron will compete with formidable opponents like BMW’s upcoming (and partially electrified) M5 and Mercedes-AMG’s EQE 53 sedan, among others.

Conjecture suggests Audi plans to unveil the RS6 Sportback e-tron and its Avant counterpart later this year as part of its 2025 lineup. Sales are projected to commence in the latter half of 2025.
