Arsenal have a point to prove against Liverpool in title showdown – Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has declared that his side have “a point to prove” ahead of Thursday’s Premier League blockbuster against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

Although the defending champions arrive in north London on a longer unbeaten run than the Gunners, victory for Arsenal would further underline their dominance at the summit of the table, opening up a commanding gap over Liverpool with 17 matches still left to play.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Arteta stressed that his team’s focus is on delivering a top-level performance and maintaining their position at the top.

“Excited. It’s a massive game against the champions of the last Premier League. We have a point to prove. We’re going to have our crowd creating an amazing atmosphere,” Arteta said.

“We are top of the table, we play at home against a really good opponent. We want to maintain our position. To do that, we’re going to have to be excellent throughout the game. That’s the point we have to prove.”

The Spaniard also reiterated Arsenal’s winning mentality as the title race intensifies.

“We want to win every game. The most important one is tomorrow’s. We know what we have to do to beat them. Now we have to prove it on the pitch,” he added.

Thursday’s encounter is expected to be one of the defining fixtures of the season, with both sides eager to make a major statement in the Premier League title race.
