Apple is gearing up for a deeper push into artificial intelligence (AI) by embedding more third-party AI tools into its ecosystem. According to CEO Tim Cook, Apple’s long-term plan is to make Siri and other Apple apps compatible with a range of AI platforms beyond OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

“Our intention is to integrate with more people over time,” Cook said in an interview with CNBC.

Apple has already integrated ChatGPT into Siri, marking its first major AI partnership. Reports suggest that Google Gemini will be next in line, with ongoing talks to bring Anthropic and Perplexity AI into future versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

More AI Partnerships Ahead

This announcement builds on earlier comments from Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, who hinted last year that the company “may look forward to doing integrations with different models like Google Gemini in the future.”

Cook reaffirmed that Apple is “making good progress” with its AI-upgraded Siri, which is expected to roll out in 2026. He also mentioned that acquiring AI startups remains an option if it aligns with Apple’s innovation roadmap.

“We are open to pursuing M&A if we think it will advance our roadmap,” Cook said during Apple’s fourth-quarter earnings call.

Apple’s Record Earnings and AI Roadmap

Apple reported record quarterly earnings of $102.5 billion, an 8% increase compared to last year. Despite launching the iPhone 17 lineup, which includes the ultra-thin iPhone Air and the iPhone 17 Pro, Cook emphasized that Apple’s AI transformation is just beginning.

A Bloomberg report also suggested that Apple might partner with Google to develop an AI-powered search experience for Siri, expanding its capabilities beyond voice commands.

Growth Across Devices and Services

Apple’s hardware and services business continue to grow alongside its AI ambitions:

  • iPhone revenue: $49.03 billion
  • Mac revenue: $8.72 billion
  • iPad revenue: $6.95 billion
  • Services (Apple TV+, Music, Fitness+, Arcade): $28.8 billion

The company also recently launched updated versions of the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro headset, all featuring M5 chips for enhanced AI and processing performance.

Looking ahead, rumors point to a budget-friendly iPhone 17e coming next year, signaling Apple’s plan to bring AI-powered features to a wider audience.
