Adeleke Resigns From PDP Over Internal National Leadership Crisis
Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, blaming the decision on the internal leadership crisis at the national level of the party.
In a statement dated November 4, 2025, and posted on his Instagram page on Monday, Mr Adeleke said he submitted his resignation letter to officials at Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2 in Ede North Local Government.
Mr Adeleke said, “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.
“I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State.”
The party was scheduled to hold governorship primary on Tuesday, ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election, but the Osun PDP chairman Sunday Bisi, announced the cancellation on the eve of the exercise.
Accordung to Mr Sunday Bisi, on Monday, the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers essential to organising congresses and transmitting candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission, created uncertainty around the exercise taking place.
Despite being the sole aspirant to purchase the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms, submit within the stipulated window, and was duly screened, Mr Adeleke’s resignation indicates his loss of interest in being nominated by the party, and possible running for re-election under another political party.
