The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Chapter, on Thursday concluded its 2026 Correspondents’ Chapel Day with a high-impact training workshop on ethical electoral reportage, awards presentation, and a renewed call for professional, responsible journalism ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his address as Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Ibrahim Muhammad Kado expressed profound gratitude to members while welcoming participants to the event themed “Journalism and Ethics of Electoral Reportage.”

“This day marks a significant milestone in our journey towards ensuring the welfare of our members, in line with the mandate of our National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya,” Kado stated.

These will go a long way to improve your skills as professional journalists.

He disclosed that Thursday’s activities represented the finale of the two-day celebration, which included a capacity-building training for members and other practising journalists drawn from eight chapels across the state.

The training is designed to equip journalists with the skills needed for credible and successful coverage of the 2027 general elections, alongside recognition of outstanding members for excellent performance.

The Chairman highlighted the success of the previous day’s activities on April 15, 2026, which featured a free medical outreach benefiting over 100 persons, including chapel members and the general public.

Services provided included testing and consultation for Hepatitis B and C, Diabetes, Hypertension, HIV, and Syphilis.

A novelty football match between the legislative arm of the Adamawa State Government and the Correspondents’ Chapel was also held at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola, fostering camaraderie between journalists and lawmakers.

Kado urged participants to actively engage with the training to be delivered by Prof. Danjuma Gambo of the University of Maiduguri and to apply the acquired knowledge in their daily practice.

“These will go a long way to improve your skills as professional journalists,” he emphasised.

Reiterating the critical role of the media as the fourth estate of the realm, the Chairman reminded colleagues of their responsibility to report accurately and shun sensationalism that could incite tension in society.

This day marks a significant milestone in our journey towards ensuring the welfare of our members.

“My appreciation goes to the entire members of the Correspondents’ Chapel for their support and cooperation, especially the organising committee for a job well done,” Kado added.

He also extended thanks to the Adamawa State Government, the State House of Assembly, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ADSACA, ASCHMA, and all other stakeholders for their contributions and support towards the success of the programme.

The event is expected to strengthen journalists’ capacity for ethical and professional coverage as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections in Adamawa State and across Nigeria.
