  • Toyota has announced two recalls impacting the Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia.
  • The Tundra and Sequoia have a software problem related to the rearview camera.
  • Some Tacoma pickups may have bad front driveshaft assemblies that can break.

Toyota is kicking off October with two new recalls that impact approximately 400,000 vehicles in the United States. This includes the popular Tacoma as well as the Tundra and Sequoia.

The latter two models are the subject of the largest recall, which has ensnared 394,000 trucks and SUVs from the 2023 to 2025 model years. According to the automaker, a software issue can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying properly.

When the vehicles are shifted into reverse, the 14-inch infotainment system may show a half green, full green, or black screen. This runs afoul of federal safety standards and increases the risk of accidently reversing into a person or vehicle.

Since this is a programming issue, the fix is pretty straightforward as dealership techs will update the software. That sounds simple enough and notifications are scheduled to go out late next month.

Faulty Part Triggers Tacoma Recall

The second recall impacts around 6,000 Tacoma pickups equipped with four-wheel drive. The automaker says some 2025 models may have bad front driveshaft assemblies.

The company didn’t go into many specifics, but said a “part used in the front driveshaft joints … may not have been manufactured with the correct material and can deform or break while driving.” This can impact handling and enable the vehicles to move, even when in park.

Owners will be notified in November and they’ll need to take their trucks to a dealership, where employees will inspect the front driveshaft assembly serial numbers. If they’re from the ‘bad batch,’ they’ll be replaced free of charge.
