An Air Canada Express flight operated by Pal Airlines caught fire during landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Saturday.

Dramatic videos shared on social media captured the moment the plane skidded down the runway, with part of the aircraft engulfed in flames.

In a statement, the airport confirmed the incident, stating that the flight, arriving from St. John’s, experienced issues upon landing.

Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick told The Globe and Mail that the plane had a “suspected landing gear issue” after arrival.

The aircraft was unable to taxi to the terminal, and all 73 passengers and crew members were safely off-loaded by bus.

Flight operations at the airport were temporarily suspended while officials ensured the airfield was safe to resume operations.

A passenger recounted the harrowing experience to CBC News, explaining that the issue began when one of the plane’s tires failed to deploy properly.

“The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left, and as that happened, we heard a pretty loud—what almost sounded like a crash sound—as the wing of the plane started to skid along the pavement, along with what I presume was the engine,” the passenger said.

She added, “The plane shook quite a bit, and we started seeing fire on the left side of the plane. Smoke began coming in through the windows.”

While there are no injuries reported, the incident is under investigation as authorities seek to determine the cause of the mechanical failure.
