2027: Nasarawa Governor Sule Reveals Why Governors are Defecting to APC

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has explained why governors across the country are defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, Sule attributed the wave of defections to the reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu.

According to the governor, these reforms have made the APC increasingly attractive to state leaders.

He noted that several governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as the sole New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) governor, Abba Yusuf of Kano State, have recently joined the ruling party.

Sule questioned the outrage that often follows such defections, arguing that governors changing parties should not be seen as a betrayal.

“Why do political parties panic when governors leave, as if their departure means everything? Why is it suddenly seen as a betrayal or a major problem?” he asked.

He disclosed that the APC recently welcomed its 29th governor, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, adding that the Taraba State governor would also be formally received into the party within days.

Sule said more governors are joining the APC because of the tangible impact of Tinubu’s reforms, particularly in revenue generation.

“If you go to every state in Nigeria, you will see significant changes due to the improved revenue available to governors,” he said.
