The organisers of the 2026 Obasa Games have announced that the multi-sport competition will take place from November 7 to December 5 across Lagos State.

Now in its fourth edition, the grassroots tournament is organised by Kings Sports International in honour of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Participants are drawn from private and public secondary schools across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State.

The Games will feature seven sports: football, boxing, chess, Scrabble, table tennis, athletics, and Ayo Olopon.

The football tournament will ignite the Games on November 7, with the other sports kicking off on November 16. Football matches will briefly pause to allow the other indoor and track events to progress, concluding their district elimination phase on November 24. The finals for these six sports are scheduled for December 2.

In the football category, 62 Under-18 teams will contest the event in two phases, starting with a fierce knockout round before 32 teams advance to the group stage.

Running under the theme, “One Lagos, Many Talents, One Brighter Future,” the 2026 edition provides young athletes with a grand platform to compete for top honours.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Agege Local Government Secretariat on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Dr Moshood Ajibola, said the tournament is aimed at discovering and nurturing emerging sporting talent.

“We believe that students can successfully combine education and sports,” Dr Ajibola said. “With both private and public schools across all 57 LGAs and LCDAs participating in the Games, our core objective is to develop a sustainable talent pool from Agege, Lagos, and Nigeria at large. Now in its fourth edition, I can confidently confirm that the competition has truly achieved its purpose, as evidenced by the remarkable number of talents discovered in previous editions.”

Dr. Ajibola also revealed that a total sum of ₦14 million has been set aside as prize money for the winners.

“The seven sports will share the ₦14 million. Football gets the largest portion, ₦6 million. Table tennis and boxing receive ₦2 million each, while chess, Scrabble, Ayo Olopon and athletics get ₦1 million each,” he added.

The organisers have also adopted the Lagos State Ministry of Education’s district structure for accrediting athletes.
