Did you know that 55 of 109 Senators in the 9th Senate failed to secure return tickets to the 10th Senate from their various political parties, and that the APC from the February 25 election is leading with 57 seats?

The Nigerian Senate is the upper chamber of the country's bicameral legislature, the National Assembly, popularly referred to as NASS. It is the nation's highest legislature and has the power to make laws, as summarized in chapter one, section four of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. The Senate consists of 109 senators, arising from the 36 states of Nigeria that are each divided into 3 senatorial districts with the exception of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that elects only one senator.

Prior to the Saturday, February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly election, the ninth Senate came into being on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senators representing Yobe North and Delta Central, Dr Ahmad Lawan and Ovie Omo-Agege elected the President of the Senate and Deputy Senate President, respectively.

From the outcome of the February 25, 2023, Presidential and National Assembly elections, the 109 Senatorial Districts will be filled by old and new lawmakers for the 10th Senate when the 9th Senate expires on June 11, 2023. Already, of the present lawmakers in the Red Chamber, 30 of them won re-election.
