YouTube Was Never Designed for Films” — Bolaji Ogunmola Speaks on the Cost of Filmmaking

Bolaji Ogunmola is speaking honestly about the financial struggles behind filmmaking, saying many people still do not understand how expensive it is to make a quality movie.

During an interview on Jay On Air, the actress explained that while YouTube has become a major platform for Nigerian filmmakers, it was never originally designed to sustain the high costs that come with film production.

According to her, even films people dismiss as “small YouTube movies” require huge investments. She revealed that some actors charge between ₦4 million and ₦5 million for just a few days of shooting, while others still earn millions depending on the project.

Bolaji added that making a good film goes far beyond having a camera and a location. She said filmmakers must deal with finding the right story, cast, locations, production team, and post-production crew, while also hoping nothing goes wrong despite months of planning.

She also noted that YouTube has helped many actors survive difficult periods in the industry. According to her, even earning a small amount daily from a project can make a difference when jobs are not coming regularly.

The actress warned people not to be deceived by online views, stressing that high numbers do not always translate to massive profits because filmmakers can only earn within the realities of Nigeria’s economy.
