YouTube Music Tests AI Radio Hosts Through Its New Labs Program

YouTube is experimenting with a new feature in the YouTube Music app: AI-powered radio hosts. These digital hosts are designed to make your listening experience more engaging by sharing stories, fan trivia, and fun commentary about your favorite music.

The test is currently available through YouTube Labs, a program dedicated to early AI experiments on the platform. According to YouTube, the goal is to “deepen your listening experience” and bring an extra layer of personalization to playlists and mixes.

Who Can Access YouTube Labs?

At the moment, YouTube Labs is only open to a limited number of US-based participants. If you’re eligible, you can join through YouTube’s official Labs website. However, not everyone who signs up will immediately get access to the new AI radio hosts.

Even some early testers have reported that while they joined Labs, they haven’t yet seen or heard the hosts while playing music on the app. This shows that the feature is still in a very early testing phase.

Why AI Hosts Make Sense for YouTube

This move isn’t surprising, considering Google’s growing investment in AI-driven features. The company has already rolled out NotebookLM, which uses AI to help people study and review information. Extending similar functionality to music makes sense, giving listeners a more interactive and informative experience.

The new Labs program also mirrors Google’s broader AI Labs initiative, which experiments with tools across Search, Gmail, and more.

Other AI Features Expanding on YouTube

Alongside the AI hosts, YouTube also announced that some of its Premium-only AI features are expanding to more devices. For example, the jump ahead tool, an AI feature that skips to the most interesting part of a video is now fully available on YouTube for TV and game consoles.

This feature first appeared for some users earlier this year, but it is now rolling out more broadly across platforms.
