Yira Sor Ready to Seize Super Eagles Opportunity After Surprise Call-Up

Yira Collins Sor has expressed deep gratitude and excitement after earning a call-up to the Nigerian national team.The winger described the opportunity as both shocking and humbling, noting that representing Nigeria is a privilege he does not take lightly.

“I am a player with a lot of pace. I am a player that loves the link-up play. I hope I can give this to the team and together we can give more.

“Two months ago, I was watching the team at the AFCON, I was excited to be honest. But thank God for everything. To represent Nigeria, a country of 200 million people.

“I always say it’s an honour and privilege I must not take for granted, and I have to push to the maximum.”

Sor represented Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, before making his move to Europe, signing for Baník Ostrava.

On 21 January 2022, he secured a move to Slavia Prague where he gained his first taste of European competition, featuring in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Later that year, in December 2022, Belgian side Genk announced his signing.

This season, Sor has made 24 league appearances in the Belgian top flight, scoring four goals and providing one assist. In European competition, he has featured in 11 matches, scoring twice.

Primarily a left winger, Sor can also operate as a left midfielder.

His style of play is defined by pace, intelligent movement, and a tendency to cut inside from the flanks while linking effectively with strikers.

The 25 year-old had his first training session with the national team.

He will be aiming to secure his place ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, set to begin in September 2026.
