  • Police arrested woman accused of $100K damage at Land Rover dealer.
  • Sixteen vehicles had shattered windshields and broken windows from rocks.
  • Suspect allegedly caught on security cameras during late-night vandalism.

It seems car dealerships have enough to worry about without random late-night outbursts turning into demolition projects. Authorities in Spokane, Washington, have arrested a woman who they suspect caused more than $100,000 worth of damage at a car dealership. Shockingly, the damage wasn’t caused by a crash like you may expect, but rather the woman started hurling rocks at the cars after an argument spiraled out of control.

The Spokane Police Department says they were alerted to the incident just before midnight last Friday after two people were seen quarreling outside the dealership. After arriving at the scene, officers found that 16 vehicles had been damaged, with many of them having their windshields smashed.

Broken Glass Everywhere

Unfortunately for the alleged perpetrator, Katie Sims, security footage captured the vandalism. The Spokesman-Review reports that the 34-year-old woman was arrested near the dealership the following day and booked into Spokane County Jail on suspicion of 1st Degree Malicious Mischief with a bond of $10,250.

The dealership, Land Rover Spokane, had several vehicles parked outside at the time. Photos shared to social media show at least one white Range Rover Evoque with a shattered windshield and a Range Rover Velar with a broken rear side window.

Details about Sims remain scarce, though Spokane City Councilmember Michael Cathcart, who represents the district where the incident occurred, pointed to wider concerns about crime in the city. He noted that many recent offenses have involved people experiencing homelessness.

“It establishes sort of this situation where we’re either inviting more of it, or we’re sort of telling individuals that there isn’t going to be any sort of penalty or anything like that if they do these acts,” he said. “I think that is not the right attitude that we should have as a city.”

This isn’t the first time an auto retailer in Spokane has been hit. Two years ago, thieves rappelled down from the ceiling of a nearby dealership and managed to steal eight vehicles
