Wiper Defends Kalonzo After ODM Links Him to Raila Health Rumors

Wiper Democratic Movement has come out in support of its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, following a statement by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) refuting rumors about the health of Raila Odinga and linking a list of political leaders with the spread of the misinformation.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Wiper Secretary-General Senator Shakila Abdalla dismissed ODM’s assertions, accusing the party of unfairly targeting Kalonzo.

“Let it be stated clearly: Kalonzo Musyoka harbours no ill whatsoever toward Mr Odinga. Any suggestion that he wishes harm upon Raila is baseless and misleading,” Abdalla said.

She criticized ODM’s statement as a diversionary tactic meant to shift attention from the party’s internal issues and insisted that Wiper had no involvement in any discussions or reports concerning Odinga’s health.

“ODM’s attempt to involve Kalonzo Musyoka in its internal matters is unnecessary and unfounded,” she added.

Act of Desperation

The party described ODM’s recent actions as “an act of desperation” aimed at shifting public attention from internal turmoil.

“ODM’s hollow moralizing and blame games cannot mask their betrayal of the Kenyan people,” Wiper said.

The statement further accused ODM of hypocrisy, arguing that its partnership with the government contradicts its past criticism of the regime.

“Their alliance with President Ruto’s regime, the same administration responsible for bloodshed, economic ruin and repression, exposes them as co-authors of the nation’s suffering. ODM’s latest statement is not about Raila’s health. It is about their guilt, their fear, and their desperate attempt to justify a political marriage stinking of despotism.”

Abdalla also dismissed claims that Kalonzo was behind any misinformation regarding Mr Odinga’s unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, saying the outcome had nothing to do with the Wiper leader.

“Mr Odinga’s AUC bid did not fail because of Mr Musyoka. It was influenced by factors beyond his control, including diplomatic and strategic considerations,” Abdalla said.

She reaffirmed that Kalonzo remains steadfast in what he believes about justice, accountability, and national unity and will not be swayed by what she referred to as political sideshows.

The statement came a day after ODM, through Raila Odinga’s Secretariat, issued a statement labeling as untrue and politically driven reports about the opposition leader’s health. The Secretariat accused a section of political leaders -among them deposed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa – of what it described as a disinformation campaign against the ODM leader.
