Werder Bremen star Ailton backs Boniface to succeed

Werder Bremen legend Ailton Gonçalves da Silva says he is confident Victor Boniface will find his form and thrive at the club, despite the Nigerian striker’s early struggles in front of goal.

Boniface, who joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, is yet to score for the Bundesliga side. However, Ailton, a former Brazilian international and club icon, believes the Super Eagles forward has what it takes to turn things around.

Speaking to Bild, Ailton expressed faith in Boniface’s ability.

“I trust him. He won’t have a career at Werder like mine, but I absolutely believe he can play a good role here.”

The 2004 Bundesliga top scorer added that goals will eventually come for the 23-year-old.

“He’ll score a few more goals. Maybe even one in the derby. There’s a lot of talk about his lack of form and his weight. If he scores, the fans and his teammates will believe in him again. A positive result is key.”
