We will do everything to beat Chelsea in UCL clash – Laporta

Barcelona President Joan Laporta has vowed that the club will give everything to secure victory when they face Chelsea in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge.

The encounter will renew one of European football’s most storied rivalries. The last time both teams met was during the 2017/18 Champions League knockout phase, where a 1-1 draw in London was followed by a 3-0 victory for Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo (via Sempre Barca), Laporta acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead but expressed confidence in the squad.

“In London, we have to win, which is not easy, but it’s true we have a team,” Laporta said.

“I don’t know if we’ll recover any more players. Chelsea is very strong, they have a very balanced team, but we have a high level of football, and we’ll do everything to try to win.”

Barcelona’s build-up to the Chelsea clash comes on the heels of an emotional homecoming. After two and a half seasons of playing at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys due to stadium renovations, the Catalan giants finally returned to the revamped Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday.

The night could not have gone better, as Barça marked the occasion with a scintillating 4-0 victory over Athletic Club. Ferran Torres scored twice, while Robert Lewandowski and Fermín López also found the net. Goalkeeper Joan Garcia ensured a clean sheet to cap off a memorable return.

Laporta was visibly delighted said, “It has become a reality — we are back home, and on top of that, with a great football spectacle. I’m very happy, like all Culés. We’ve reclaimed a day of joy in living, the joy of being Barça, of experiencing Barça, and we saw this in the ceremonial first kick with the oldest members.”
