We are not intimidated by Nigeria, says Uganda Coach ahead of AFCON 2025

Cranes of Uganda head coach Paul Put has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), declaring that they are prepared to face some of the continent’s strongest sides.

Uganda, placed in Group C, will battle three-time champions Nigeria, Tunisia, and regional rivals Tanzania when the tournament kicks off in Morocco.

The Cranes, who will be making their eighth AFCON appearance, are not widely regarded as favourites, but Put believes his players can compete with the best.

“They (Super Eagles) are a perennial powerhouse. There are threats everywhere from their squad with top talent and European experience,” Put told CAFonline.

“Tunisia are highly organised, technical, tactically astute. They are hard to break down but we will see.

“For our neighbours Tanzania, they are a good mix of energy and familiarity — regional derbies are never easy.

“We will respect all of them, but we are not intimidated. We will give a good account of ourselves.”

LoUganda will open their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tunisia on December 23.
