WAFU B U17 AFCON: Golden Eaglets need big win vs Togo to avoid hosts Ghana

The Golden Eaglets pipped gallant Niger to shake off a tentative start to their title defence of the sub-regional WAFU B U17 championship and will now need to beat already eliminated Togo to avoid rampant hosts Ghana in the semifinals.

The team under the tutelage of coach Manu Garba are now second in Group B with four points from two matches.

Burkina Faso top the group after they beat Togo 2-0 to enjoy a better goals difference than the Golden Eaglets.

On Wednesday, Burkina Faso will tackle Niger, while the Golden Eaglets face Togo in final Group B games.

Kick-off of both games will be 5pm in Nigeria.

Finishing was the bane of the Nigerian lads in the opening game against Burkina Faso.

However, coach Manu rung the changes in attack against Niger Sunday night for his team to triumph.

HB Academy striker Rapha Adams was the match winner against Niger after he was moved to the flanks for the more direct Abdulmuiz Adeleke to lead the attack.

The exciting winger Ibrahim Abdulganiyu, who was a marked man against Burkina Faso, did not see action Sunday, but his flair and industry could well be the keys to unlock a Togo side, who only have their finishing to blame for their loss to Burkina Faso.
