UNICAL Graduating Students Di£s in Road Accident Ahead of Convocation

Two graduating students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), identified as Gloria Ajor and Godwin Benjamin, have lost their lives in a tragic motor accident in Cross River State.

The fatal crash occurred on Thursday night, April 9, 2026, and involved a Sienna bus transporting passengers from Bekwarra Local Government Area to Calabar.

According to reports, the victims were on their way to attend the university’s 38th convocation ceremony, which was scheduled to take place on April 10.

Local sources indicated that the accident resulted in multiple casualties, with several passengers reportedly losing their lives, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Eyewitnesses stated that good Samaritans quickly responded at the scene, assisting in rescuing survivors and transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

The tragic loss has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory milestone for the victims and their families.

Gloria Ajor has since been laid to rest on Saturday, April 11.
