The UAE announced a comprehensive national health insurance system aimed at guaranteeing high-quality healthcare services for all citizens nationwide.

ABU DHABI: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has directed the adoption of a comprehensive national healthcare system supported by a unified insurance framework covering all emirates across the UAE.

The new UAE health insurance system is designed to guarantee access to high-quality medical care and integrated health services for all citizens. Officials said the initiative reflects the country’s long-term commitment to preventive healthcare, digital transformation, innovation and sustainable health services.

Authorities stated that the new model aims to improve healthcare efficiency, strengthen service sustainability and ensure better utilisation of national medical resources. The system will also support higher sector readiness in line with international healthcare standards and global best practices.

Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of Health and Prevention, said the directive demonstrates the UAE leadership’s focus on placing human health and quality of life at the centre of national development priorities. He described the UAE health insurance system as a strategic step towards creating a more agile and future-ready healthcare sector.

Al Sayegh added that the UAE continues to invest heavily in prevention, innovation and healthcare infrastructure to improve service accessibility across all emirates. He highlighted the country’s integrated federal and local healthcare model, supported by advanced digital health platforms and long-term investment in medical services.

Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman, Aster DM Healthcare, mentioned the UAE Universal Healthcare System Announcement as a landmark move in the sector of healthcare, “A fully integrated national health insurance scheme covering the whole of the UAE will be a game-changer for the country’s healthcare system, elevating its status further as one of the best in the world. At Aster DM Healthcare, we wholeheartedly welcome this strategic initiative by the visionary leadership of the UAE, which reinforces the nation’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to high-quality healthcare for every citizen and resident.

This progressive step will not only enhance accessibility and continuity of care, but also encourage more people to seek world-class treatment within the country. We commend the UAE leadership for its continued focus on building a more integrated, efficient and patient-centric healthcare ecosystem — one that places the health and wellbeing of communities at the core of the nation’s sustainable development journey.”

Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and CEO of Burjeel Holdings, described the UAE’s unified national health insurance system as a major milestone that will improve access to quality healthcare across all emirates. He said the initiative will help create a more connected, preventive and efficient healthcare ecosystem while strengthening continuity of care and supporting advanced medical services nationwide. He added that the move reinforces the UAE’s position as a global leader in future-ready healthcare.

The UAE health insurance system is also expected to strengthen coordination across healthcare providers while improving resilience during future public health challenges. Officials said the initiative would support seamless healthcare delivery at every stage of life and ensure long-term health outcomes for citizens nationwide.

The announcement marks one of the UAE’s most significant healthcare reforms in recent years as the country continues expanding its modern healthcare ecosystem and positioning itself among the world’s leading destinations for advanced medical services and innovation.
