Two siblings, Zubairu and Sadiq Ibrahim, have tragically lost their lives in a mass collapse at an artisanal mining site in Kakaki village, located within the Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Leadership quoted sources to have disclosed that the deceased brothers had ventured to a gold mining site in the village, known for its significant gold reserves, with the intention of fulfilling a debt repayment.

It has been reported that Zubairu, aged 25, and Sadiq, 20, had been engaged in artisanal gold mining activities near the bank of a tributary within the village for an extended period until the devastating event occurred.

Naija News reports that this is coming barely two weeks after the bodies of four more miners who were trapped in the mining site at the Galadima-Kogo community of the Shiroro Local Government Area in Niger State were retrieved.

The Village Head of Galadima-Kogo, Alhaji Umaru Aliyu, had disclosed details of the recovery to pressmen in Minna, the state capital.

The tragic collapse was said to have resulted in the loss of 14 lives, while eight individuals were rescued, sustaining various injuries, on June 14.

The village head confirmed that the recovery of the remaining four miners took place on Wednesday, and their bodies have been transferred to the mortuary at IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna.

“The dead bodies of the remaining four persons that were trapped inside the pit have been recovered, and their bodies have been deposited in the mortuary in Minna.

“They are two Muslims and two Christians; among the Christian victims, one is from Nasarawa state and one from Zumba (Shiroro LG).

“The one from Nasarawa; his family has demanded that his body be taken to Nasarawa for burial, while the remaining Christian and the two Muslims will be buried in Minna on Friday,” the village head told newsmen.
