Trump on Edge as Iranian Supreme Leader Issue Regional War Threat

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a stark warning to United States President Trump, escalating tensions over nuclear negotiations and regional security.

The Iranian supreme leader, on January 1, highlighted the scope of potential conflict, naming specific U.S. bases in Doha, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, and the UAE as targets in the event of a U.S. strike.

“If the U.S. starts a war against Tehran, the Iranian army will destroy U.S. military bases in Doha, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, UAE, and Oman to create international pressure on the Trump regime,” Khamenei stated.

Iran Warns Trump

He added that “Iran will bomb U.S. bases before Tel Aviv,” highlighting the scale of retaliation Iran says it would pursue in the event of conflict.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Iran does not intend to initiate conflict, stressing that the country does not seek to attack any nation.

However, he warned that Iran would respond forcefully to any aggression, stating that the Iranian nation would deliver a firm blow against anyone who attacks or harasses it.

“We are not the instigators, and we do not seek to attack any country. But the Iranian nation will deliver a firm blow to anyone who attacks or harasses it,” Khamenei warned

The warning comes amid reports of renewed nuclear talks, with U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledging that Iran has reached out for negotiations.

“Maybe we’ll meet with them. Iran wants to negotiate. I mean, a meeting is being set up, but we may have to act because of what’s happening,” Trump said.

Trump Statement on Iran Protests

President Donald Trump initially said he was considering military action to support massive public protests in Iran against its ruling system and supreme leader, but he has since shifted to demand Iran return to nuclear talks.

Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 deal to limit Iran’s nuclear program during his first term.

A regime crackdown on the protests has left at least 6,713 people dead, the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency reported Saturday, including protesters, government forces and bystanders. More than 17,000 additional cases are under investigation, according to HRANA, which has in the past produced accurate figures.

An Iranian diplomat said Tehran is open to respectful engagement but will not engage under U.S. military threat.

“No negotiation is possible under the current situation. Trump’s conditions for negotiation are unrealistic and unnegotiable,” he told The Washington Post. In addition to demanding that Iran halt its nuclear program, the Trump administration has called for limits on its missile program and an end to its support for militant groups in the region.

For Iran, one of the Western officials said, the nature of the confrontation with the United States shifted dramatically when Trump stated support for the protests.
