The  Nigerian creative sector is a vibrant and thriving economy.

According to reports, the creative sector in Nigeria is the second-largest employer  of  labour after Agriculture.

FilmHouse  in 2022 revealed that Nigerian cinemas grossed  a sum of NGN 6.9 Billion.

Industry experts have also  projected that the sector will bring  a gross contribution of $100b to the nation’s economy by 2030.

Filmmakers are rising to the occasion, establishing startups that leverage technology to develop specialized and scalable solutions for the industry

Here are top 5 film tech startups, making major moves in the Nigerian relative scenes.

1. Rushing Tap

CEO Soji Ogunaike birthed the Rushing Tap idea in 2014 from the passion to create world class video content, after working in video production for 11 years, 

Rushing Tap’s vision is To be the foremost content conceptualization and production company of international repute servicing both local and international clients.

In 2020, Rushing Tap announced a multi-million dollar partnership with POV Studios, an entertainment investment company.

The partnership, aimed at establishing a world-class entertainment production outfit in Nigeria,  led to the creation of Rushing Tap Studios.

The studio is a state-of-the-art facility in the Lekki-Ajah area of Lagos State. 

Rushing Tap  is backed by serial investor Olumide Soyombo, who has invested over £1 million in its growth and development.

2. Nollydata

Nollydata was founded on the strength of recognizing the need for an organized database within Nollywood.

The platform  serves as a central repository for information on films, actors, producers, and other key industry players. 

This very necessary initiative addresses a critical gap in the industry and  also enhances its accessibility and visibility globally.

Chidinma Igbokweuvhe , a screenwriter, co- founded Nollydata with Ibrahim Suleiman an actor in 2022.

3. TalentXAfrica

TalentX Africa,  is a full-time venture focused on talent exchange and infrastructure. 

The company is building the Operating System for the African creator economy value chain, creating platforms that drive creative funding by de-risking the investment process.

TalentXAfrica has a mission of shaping an ecosystem that funds more stories, tells better stories, and creates greater wealth for the creative, investor and viewing communities.

Victoria Popoola, CEO and co-founder of TalentXAfrica, is a finance professional with a background in venture capital and data analytics.

She co-founded the company inOctober 2021.

TalentX has invested close to $1 million in Nollywood movies.

4. Albantsho

Albansto is a platform that brings together black Africans to explore and narrate the multifaceted stories of the continent. 

It Functions as a digital marketplace. It allows writers to share their work, producers to acquire content, and talents to connect with opportunities.

Albantsho CEO, Julie Ako is a filmmaker, project manager, and information systems specialist.

 On a mission to reshape the narrative of Africa through the power of storytelling, she co-founded Albansto with Nikita Mokgware from Botswana in 2020.

5. Filmmakers Mart

Filmmakers Mart is Africa’s first one-stop marketplace for all things video production. This includes equipment, location , staff, including talent and crew. 

Vendors, talent, crew, and other personnel  can onboard themselves on the platform, and filmmakers can book the skills they need directly. 

The platform  helps to streamline the process of filmmaking,  and reduces production costs and time.

Eric  Kafui Okyerefo co-founded the company in 2021, alonsgide Chioma Dike, Victor Tobi Awotidebe, and Igho Avusi Avuiroeviere.
