Thugs attack ADC meeting

Suspected thugs on Saturday disrupted a coalition meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna, leaving several supporters injured and vehicles vandalised.

The meeting, which took place at the NUT Endwell Conference Hall in Magadishu Layout, was held under the leadership of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The gathering was part of a united opposition front that recently adopted the ADC as its platform against the ruling party.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers stormed the venue while the event was ongoing, beating participants and damaging property.

Windscreens of several cars, including one belonging to El-Rufai, were destroyed, while windows of the conference hall were also shattered.

Videos and photos circulating online showed injured party members and the chaotic scene as the thugs forced their way into the hall.

Despite the presence of armed policemen earlier deployed to stop the meeting, the attackers carried out the assault without restraint.

Sources alleged that the state government had pressured event centres to cancel bookings for the opposition before the meeting eventually held at the NUT hall.

The attack is believed to be linked to the growing political tension between El-Rufai and the current governor, Uba Sani.
