There Is No Christian or Muslim Genocide in Nigeria — President Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again dismissed claims that religious genocide is taking place in Nigeria, insisting that the country’s security challenges are not rooted in Christianity or Islam.

The President made this position known during the 8th Biennial Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT), which focused on the theme “Building Resilience in a Changing World: The Role of Faith and Community.”

Speaking through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s ongoing security struggles are caused by terrorism fueled by criminal activities and extremism, not religious persecution.

According to the President, spreading claims of religious genocide could further divide the country and undermine national unity. He stressed that people of different faiths are equally affected by violence and remain united in rejecting acts of terror.

The statement reads: “These allegations are not only false but harmful. They are capable of inflaming passions and disrupting the peaceful coexistence we continue to build as a nation

“Muslims and Christians alike have suffered from terrorism in Nigeria, and they stand shoulder to shoulder in condemning violence from any quarter.

“As President, I reiterate with all sense of responsibility and fidelity to the Constitution that there is no Christian genocide in Nigeria, and there is no Muslim genocide in Nigeria. What we have is terrorism driven by criminality and extremism, challenges we are working tirelessly to overcome,”

The President’s remarks come just weeks after former U.S. President Donald Trump alleged that Christians were being targeted in Nigeria. Trump had reportedly warned that he could deploy American troops if decisive action was not taken to address the situation.
