The funeral ceremony for late President Raisi commences in Iran

In Iran, funeral services have started for President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and others who lost their lives in Sunday’s helicopter crash.

According to state media, thousands of supporters of the government gathered in the city of Tabriz to pay their respects at the beginning of the ceremony.

Tasnin news agency reported that additional mourning events were scheduled to take place in Qom, a city known for religious significance and pilgrimages, as well as in the capital city, Tehran.

Raisi will be laid to rest on Thursday in Mashhad, his hometown located in the heart of Shia Islam, at the shrine of Imam Reza, the eighth Shia imam.

Raisi and Amirabdollahian, along with seven others, tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash due to thick fog in the mountains while returning from a meeting with Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan.
