The Chelsea star did not have a good game against Leicester

Raheem Sterling picked up an assist in the first half of Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final against Leiceter City. But he could have had a much bigger impact on the match.

Chelsea went into the break 2-0 up thanks to goals from Marc Cucurella and Cole Palmer – Palmer’s effort set up by Sterling. But it could and perhaps should have been 4-0, with Leicester playing such open football.

Chelsea were handed a penalty at 1-0 up when Abdul Fatawu came in late on Sterling in the box as the frontman was about to strike. Palmer would normally step up to take spot-kicks, but Sterling convinced him that he should take it instead.

Sterling stepped up and duly missed with an awful penalty saved easily by Jakub Stolarczyk. Soon after, Sterling was sent clean through on goal by NIcolas Jackson

In behind the defence, all Sterling had to do was lift the ball in past the Polish stopper, but he put it woefully wide. His time was to come as he laid the ball on a plate for Palmer to make it 2-0, but it was not the best first half for the former England man.

And Mauricio Pochettino knew he would need a helping hand as he came off the pitch at half-time. Pochettino was not the one to go to Sterling, but assistant head coach Jesus Perez was straight onto the pitch.

Perez could be seen putting his arm around a visibly irate Sterling, who was muttering away under his breath about what had gone on in the first period. It remains to be seen what sort of Sterling comes out for the second period at Stamford Bridge.
