Catherine Nyogesa is a Clinical and Radiation Oncologist currently practicing at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.

Nyongesa is also the Founder, owner, and CEO of Texas Cancer Centre.

She has spent more than two decades providing comprehensive care to cancer patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

She is passionate about expanding access to affordable, high-quality cancer care, driving research innovations, and championing early detection through free screening campaigns and community awareness programs.

Educational Background

Catherine earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) degree from the University of Nairobi in 1995.

She later pursued a master’s degree in the Radiation Oncology Residency Program at the University of the Witwatersrand from 2002 to 2005.

Nyogesa later completed her Fellowship in Radiation Oncology (FC Rad Onc) at the College of Radiation Oncologists of South Africa in 2005.

Catherine Nyogesa Career Background

She currently serves as the Director of Medical Services and Head of the Cancer Treatment Center at Kenyatta National Hospital, a position she has held since July 2024.

In this role, she leads the development and implementation of health policies that strengthen public health outcomes and uphold high standards in cancer care.

Since January 2006, she has also served as a Clinical Oncology Specialist at The Nairobi Hospital, where she provides expert oncology services and contributes to the hospital’s delivery of advanced, compassionate cancer care.

In addition, she has worked as a Radiation Oncologist at Texas Cancer Centre, Kenya, since July 2010, offering specialised radiation therapy and supporting expanded access to cancer treatment.

Her leadership extends to the American Cancer Society’s Patient Navigation Program at Kenyatta National Hospital, which she has led since May 2006.

Through this program, she guides patients through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, while establishing collaborative networks with healthcare providers.

From March 2020 to December 2023, she served as the Regional Project Coordinator for the IAEA Project (AFRA-RAF/6/055), overseeing regional activities to advance nuclear science and healthcare.

Between January 2018 and October 2023, she served as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Nairobi.

In this role, she taught advanced healthcare and public health courses, mentored students in research, and helped develop the curriculum to ensure it met industry standards.

She also collaborated on research initiatives and helped prepare future healthcare leaders.

Earlier in her career, she trained as a Radiation Oncology Registrar at Johannesburg General Hospital from March 2002 to September 2005, gaining extensive hands-on experience in radiation therapy.

Before this, she worked as a Casualty Medical Officer at The Nairobi Hospital from May 1997 to February 2002, managing emergency cases and providing critical frontline medical care.
