Suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents have demanded a ransom of N423 million for the release of Hon. Hassan Biu Miringa, a former Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State.

A fresh video released by security analyst Zagazola Makam shows Miringa and another abducted man appealing to political and community leaders in Borno State to urgently intervene to secure their freedom.

The victims were kidnapped on December 17, 2025, while travelling from Miringa town to Maiduguri. In the video, the abductors were said to have demanded $150,000 ransom for each captive, bringing the total sum to $300,000.

Identifying himself in the footage, Miringa said he served as Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area between 2020 and 2022 and disclosed that they were abducted by fighters loyal to the so-called Islamic Caliphate in mid-December.

“We were abducted about 14 days ago and we are still in their custody. Alhamdulillah, we are alive, but we urgently need help to save our lives,” he said.

Miringa revealed that several rounds of dialogue had taken place between the captives and their abductors, adding that some level of understanding had been reached. He appealed directly to key political figures and elders from the area to intervene.

He specifically called on Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Umar Kadafur; the lawmaker representing Biu, Kwaya and Shani Federal Constituency, Hon. Betera Aliyu; Dr. Sule Ali Rimi; Hon. Kimba; and Alhaji Musa Dogo Biu, urging them to show mercy and come to their aid.

According to him, the insurgents have placed a ransom of $150,000 on each of the two abductees and warned that their lives remain in danger if help does not come quickly.

“We are pleading that our cries be heard so that we can be reunited with our families and loved ones,” Miringa said, praying for divine intervention and lasting peace in the region.
