Teacher Sparks Outrage After Demanding “Self-Control Allowance” for Male Teachers

A Ghanaian teacher has stirred controversy online after calling on the government to introduce a “self-control allowance” for male teachers, claiming that female students in senior high schools are becoming “too attractive.”

In a viral video, the teacher argued that the allowance would serve as compensation for the “mental and emotional discipline” required to teach young girls who, according to him, now dress in ways that make self-restraint difficult.

He said,

“The Minister of Education, I stand for my colleagues — in fact, we deserve a self-control allowance. It’s not easy to control ourselves for three years teaching these young girls. The kind of food they are eating and the tight clothes they wear make them look attractive. Teachers are suffering.”

The statement quickly went viral on Ghanaian social media, drawing mixed reactions. While some users saw his comments as a lighthearted complaint about the challenges of teaching teenagers, others condemned them as highly inappropriate and unprofessional, calling for his arrest and disciplinary action.

Many critics argued that the teacher’s remarks reflected a disturbing mindset and raised concerns about student safety in schools.

As of now, Ghana’s Ministry of Education has not issued an official response to the viral video.
