‎Alegu emerged champion after successfully navigating the challenging round-robin stage before powering his way to victory in the final of his category.

‎Speaking with the NTF Media Team after his triumph, Alegu said the experience gathered from participating in several championships played a major role in helping him emerge victorious despite the demanding nature of the competition.

‎“It was quite tough for me. I had to go through six fights and sincerely, at some point, I was tired. But I knew that to be a champion, you have to go all the way. I kept believing in myself, and I thank God I made it and emerged winner today.”

‎The young athlete, who is a product of the National Sports Commission’s RHINSE Initiative and one of the invited junior athletes at the last National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, recently returned from the World Taekwondo Championships in Uzbekistan.

‎Alegu praised both the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation for the exposure and opportunities given to him, which he said have greatly improved his performance and confidence.

‎“I want to specifically thank the leadership of the NSC and the NTF for finding me worthy of all the training and exposure I have benefited from.

I can confirm to you that my fighting ability was not as good this time last year, but with the full support of the National Sports Commission and the leadership of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, I have improved immensely.”

‎Looking ahead to the upcoming African Championship scheduled to take place in Bamako, Alegu expressed confidence in his ability to make Nigeria proud despite competing in a different weight category.

‎“Despite the fact that I will be competing in another category when I get to Mali, I want to assure you that I will give my very best and put in all my strength to make it to the podium.
