Skriniar vows to stop Osimhen in Istanbul Derby

Fenerbahce captain Milan Skriniar says his team will do everything possible to stop Victor Osimhen from finding the net when they face Galatasaray in the Istanbul derby at RAMS Park on Monday night.

The clash rekindles Skriniar’s on-pitch rivalry with Osimhen, whom he famously collided with during a Serie A match between Inter Milan and Napoli in November 2021—an incident that led to the Nigerian striker wearing a protective face mask ever since.

Ahead of the derby, Skriniar praised both Osimhen and Galatasaray’s other striking option, Mauro Icardi, while stressing the need for defensive discipline.

“Both (Osimhen, Icardi) are very good centre-forwards. Of course, they have different types of characteristics, but they are very good players,” the Slovak defender told BeIN Sports.

“We will see what we need to do defensively on Monday. We need to play compactly and aggressively, and be together so we can stop them.”

Galatasaray currently sit top of the Turkish Super Lig table on 32 points, one point above their city rivals Fenerbahce after 13 matches.
