Silva challenges Chukwueze to fight for Fulham starting spot

Fulham head coach Marco Silva has openly challenged winger Samuel Chukwueze to compete for a regular starting position in the team.

Chukwueze, 26, joined the Whites on a season-long loan during the summer. Although he has only made five substitute appearances for the West London club so far, the Nigeria international has already made a significant impact.

Last weekend, Chukwueze provided a wonderful assist for Raúl Jiménez’s late goal in Fulham’s 1-0 win over Sunderland. This was the winger’s second Premier League assist for the Cottagers.

His match-winning contribution saw him voted Fulham’s Royal Caribbean Legend of the Match, an award for which he beat out both Raúl Jiménez and Harry Wilson.

Silva praised the player for the impression he has made since his arrival at the club.

“He (Chukwueze) had a huge impact. It was a great assist from him, and we’re pleased for him. Now we need him to start games and keep the intensity throughout the 90 minutes,” Silva told Fulham’s official website
