Shehu Sani Reacts As Donald Trump Calls Mayor Of London A Terrible Mayor

Former Nigerian lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has condemned United States President Donald Trump’s repeated attacks on London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling the comments “unbecoming” of a world leader and a form of prejudice.

In a tweet on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Sani stated, “President Trump’s continuous attacks on the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is unbecoming of a World leader. If the people of London and by extension UK are pleased with Khan whom they elected, what is Trump’s business there. The Attacks on Khan is nothing but a prejudice against his race and faith which is condemnable.”

Sani’s words came in response to Trump’s address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, where the US President singled out London and its mayor.

Trump claimed, “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been changed, it’s been so changed. Now they want to go to sharia law. But you are in a different country, you can’t do that.”

This is not the first time the two leaders have clashed.

The animosity between Trump and Khan dates back to 2015, when Khan, a Labour politician, spoke out against Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the US.

Since then, Trump has consistently used public platforms to criticize the London Mayor, often making remarks that are widely seen as bigoted and discriminatory.

A spokesperson for Sir Sadiq Khan has already issued a sharp rebuke to Trump’s latest comments, stating, “We are not going to dignify his appalling and bigoted comments with a response.”

The spokesperson also defended London’s status as a global city, highlighting that it is “safer than major US cities” and attracts a record number of US citizens.

Sani’s tweet adds another voice to the chorus of global leaders and commentators who have criticized Trump for his politically charged and often inflammatory rhetoric, particularly when it targets elected officials in other sovereign nations based on their religion or ethnic background.

The ongoing feud has become a focal point of international discourse, raising questions about diplomatic conduct and the spread of religious and racial prejudice on the world stage. See, More, Here>>>>
